As a nonprofit Museum, volunteers are essential to meeting our mission. You help keep the light shining, share our maritime stories, provide learning opportunities for future generations, and give exemplary customer service to over 240,000 annual visitors at the museum. As a thank you for your service, all volunteers will receive a name badge, free access to the museum, and the opportunity to make a difference.

At 60 house of service, volunteers receive a free museum membership.

The membership includes discounts in the museum store, discounts on specialty tours, access to exclusive member-only events, free or discounted admissions to other local attractions.

Share History at the St. Augustine Lighthouse!

Do you love history and engaging with people? The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum is looking for passionate volunteer docents to lead daily programs and share the fascinating stories of our Lighthouse, keepers, and maritime heritage!

As a docent, you will:

  • Lead engaging tours and interpretive talks for visitors
  • Share the rich history of the Lighthouse and its role in maritime navigation
  • ️Assist with hands-on demonstrations and interactive exhibits
  • Create a welcoming and educational experience for guests of all ages

No prior experience needed—just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! Training provided.

Daytime, 2 hours per week

Ghost Tour Docent

Volunteer Docents Needed for the Dark of the Moon Experience!

Are you passionate about history and the paranormal? The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to serve as docents for our Dark of the Moon Experience—the only after-hours ghost tour that lets guests explore the Lighthouse at night!

As a DOM Docent, you’ll:

  • Share spine-tingling stories of supernatural encounters and local history
  • Assist with visitor safety and engagement at key locations—either at the Lighthouse entrance or the top of the tower

Evenings & Weekends 7:30-10:00 pm
