Each month we feature a Member Spotlight in our member newsletter giving our members a chance to share why the Museum is important to them and why they value their membership.  This month we recognize Kelli McGreevy and Rick Poehlman.  Members since 2021, Rick and Kelli were married on the front lawn of the Museum in December 2020! Kelli has been visiting the Lighthouse since she was a child while her dad was stationed at Naval Air Station Jacksonville.  She and her family visited St. Augustine often throughout their time in Jacksonville.  Rick, in turn, loves all things old including architecture and history (I think he found the right place!).  “We are excited to play a small part in the preservation of the Lighthouse through our membership. The membership program provides everyone a way to invest in the restoration and preservation of this historic landmark.  It allows us and future generations to appreciate its history and value.”

With their membership, Rick and Kelli enjoy participating in the member events and activities offered as a member including getting their copy of the Spyglass! When they visit the site, they like to linger around the Heritage Boat Works: “we love watching and learning about the boats when the boat builders are working on the grounds.” The Museum has one of the few volunteer-based boatworks in Florida as well as the country! Naturally, Rick and Kelli enjoy a climb up the Lighthouse tower.  “The Lighthouse is a connection to the past and an important part of our national and local history.  It’s incredibly special to be able to visit the Lighthouse, climb the tower and learn about its history.”

Rick and Kelli are fans of our annual Luminary Night festival held the first Wednesday in December.  What a great way to celebrate their anniversary a bit early! You can find them at the top of the tower catching the view of downtown St. Augustine during the Nights of Lights or visiting their brick that marks their anniversary!

On behalf of the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, we want to thank Rick and Kelli as well as all of our members for their continued support!
