The campers caught 3 fish and we especially excited about learning the basics of sailing. On Wednesday, they got to test their newly learned skills aboard the schooner Freedom. The 10-12 year olds also engaged in several team- building activities. On Friday they shared their original songs with their friends and family during the final performance.
Here are their songs:
SHRIMP
Tune: Theme From the Beverly Hillbillies
They jump up and down and all around
At Publix or Winn Dixie buy them by the pound
Boil them or fry them anyway you please
Put in the fridge or in the deep freeze
Chorus: Shrimp that is, clickety clack, clickety clack
Antennas and legs and heads and tails
Some of them are eaten by whales
Pink and brown and red and white
With and kinds of sauce they taste just right
Chorus: Shrimp that is, clickety clack, clickety clack
CLAMS
Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
Clams can be found mostly on the ground
Sometimes on a sandy mound
Clams have a shell that’s smooth and hard
Their bodies are sometimes fat as lard
You can use them for fishing bait
If the fish don’t bite, you will have to wait
Clams can be found in fresh or salt water
Anyone can eat them, even my daughter
Clams really do not have any legs
But they do come from little eggs
Clams do not have fingers or toes
And don’t have to worry ‘bout wearing clothes
FIDDLER CRABS
Tune: Shallow Brown
These cute little fiddler crabs
Chorus: Look out, look out, look out look out!
Are watching out for those who grab
Chorus
They don’t want to be picked up
Chorus
And put into a plastic cup
Chorus
They see an escape it’s out the top
Chorus
They tried to climb out but back they dropped
Chorus
They fell back in they fell back down
Chorus
They never made it to the ground
Chorus
Out the bottom is escape plan two
Chorus
Cut a small hole and go right through
Chorus
Make a new hole for me and my daughter
Chorus
And then jump up and run towards the water
Ending Chorus: Got out, got out, got out, got out!
THE BIG RED FISH
Tune: While Strolling Through the Park One Day
I was fishing down by the bay
It was on a sunny day
When I saw a big red fish
I’d like to have him on a dish
While fishing down by the bay
I was fishing down by the bay
It was on a sunny day
I threw out a line
And I hooked him in no time
While fishing down by the bay
I was fishing down by the bay
It was on a sunny day
He offered me a wish
Instead of being on my dish
While fishing down by the bay
I was fishing down by the bay
It was on a sunny day
I asked him for a pony
It turned out to be a phony
And the big red fish got away.
