The 28, 6-9 year old campers here for “Shrimping and Fishing” had a great time. Jonas caught a beautiful yellow fin snapper his first time fishing. Everybody climbed the lighthouse, some for the first time. During their field trip aboard the Victory III, they saw many dolphins. Overall, their 3 favorite activities during the week were fishing, climbing the lighthouse, and the music. Here are the songs that they wrote about their experiences:
HERMIT CRABS
Tune: Mary Had a Little Lamb
The hermit crabs pinch you on the skin on the skin, on the skin,
We caught them quick and trapped them in a bin, snap, snap, pinch, pinch, pinch
They climbed up the pole and then jumped down, then jumped down, then jumped down
They flew in the air and fell on the ground, snap, snap, pinch, pinch, pinch
They crawled back into the St. John’s River, St. John’s River, St. John’s River
It was so cold they began to shiver, snap, snap, pinch, pinch, pinch
They decided to go back to their hole, back to their hole, back to their hole
And in the water saw a fishing pole, snap, snap, pinch, pinch, pinch
DOLPHINS JUMP AND SPLASH
Tune: Dixie
I saw the dolphins in the ocean today
While we were on our merry way
Chorus: jump and splash, jump and splash, jump and splash, jump and splash
Dolphins all have a great big brain
And they hope that it doesn’t rain
Chorus
Dolphins live way under water
And so does a salty sea otter
Chorus
Dolphins munch on tasty fish
But they don’t have to use a dish
Chorus
DOLPHINS
Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
Jin the fin skinned his chin
He went so fast he hit a tin
Dolphins have a hole on their head
It’s called blowhole, that’s what I said
They can jump more than 10 feet high
They can jump up in the sky
Reprise: Jump, jump dolphin way up high
Jump way up into the sky
THE LIGHTHOUSE
Tune: Shallow Brown
I saw the lighthouse from the boat
Chorus: Shine your light everywhere
I hope the boat will always float
Chorus
It helps the ships upon the water
Chorus
We might even see a little sea otter
Chorus
