TAKE THE DAY OFF WITH THE ST. AUGUSTINE LIGHTHOUSE AND MUSEUM GUILD
Tue, Feb 02 2010 The Guild will be on the road again this spring, offering a special day trip to Amelia Island and historic Fernandina Beach on Saturday, April 17, 2010.
Our itinerary will include:
* A rare opportunity for a morning visit to the Amelia Island Lighthouse where we will be able to enter the Lighthouse on the ground level (climbing not permitted at this time), have photo opportunities and meet and talk with a descendant of an Amelia Island Lighthouse keeper.
* Lunch at 29 South, a chic neighborhood bistro in historic downtown Fernandina Beach, known for “extraordinary casual dining.”
* A two hour narrated afternoon cruise with Amelia River Cruises to the western shore of Cumberland Island which will also include views of the Lighthouse and range light from the water.
* Following the cruise, approximately two hours of free time to explore historic Fernandina Beach with its many quaint shops and restaurants.
We plan to accomplish all of this by leaving at 8 AM from the parking lot between the St. Augustine Beach City Hall Municipal Building and the St. Augustine Beach Police Station. This is the lot where the little beach post office used to be located. It is on the south east corner of A1A and 16th Street. We are asked to park our cars down toward the old post office building, and returning at approximately 8 PM. The Guild’s famous Mimosas, along with special home baked breads will be available during the bus ride to Amelia Island. There will be exciting raffle prizes during our return trip and a good time to be had by all. The cost for this unique opportunity is $97 for members of the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum, and $107 for non-members.
Please call Debe or Pam at 904-829-0745 for reservations or any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you in April!
The Money raised from this trip will support the St. Augustine Lighthouse Endowment.
Strengthening the endowment provides economic stability and security. It generates interest that can be reinvested or used to support critical needs, such as restoring the metal work on our lighthouse. Endowment principal is never spent. It is there in times of economic struggle (hurricanes). A larger endowment means more community service programs like archaeology, boat building and children’s programs.
We hope that you will consider supporting our fundraising effort. Your participation will help us not only have a successful trip, but through strengthening our endowment, help our community treasure shine for years to come!
