Former Library of Congress Director of Folk Culture to Give Lecture/Concert at the Lighthouse & Museum November 22
Fri, Nov 13 2009 ST. AUGUSTINE, FL - On Sunday, November 22, 2009, the former Library of Congress Director of Folk Culture Joe Hickerson will give a lecture and concert in the Anastasia Gallery at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum from 7 – 9 pm.
The award-winning artist will offer an overview with sound samples of traditionally Florida music, including music that can be traced to the states maritime heritage, followed by a short concert.
Hickerson is a folklorist, ethnomusicologist, archivist, and librarian; he worked at the Library of Congress for 35 years (1963-1998) as the Librarian and Director. He lectures and writes on a variety of folk music topics and now coordinates the “Songfinder” column for Sing Out! magazine.
The suggested donation of $10 will support the work of the not-for-profit St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum.
