CELEBRATE NATIONAL LIGHTHOUSE DAY WITH US AUGUST 7TH!
Help us celebrate National Lighthouse day on Saturday, August 7 at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum -- part of the First Light Maritime Society. See the restored keeper’s house, our boatworks, and conservation area. Walk where the keepers walked in the native Maritime Hammock. And, of course, climb the tower to see our working light. Special activities in our courtyard include a “hands on” craft project for children 10:30 am – 12:30 pm and a concert of maritime songs for all ages with Chris Kastle and Matt Armstrong 4:00 – 5:00 pm. Children will be coloring wood cutouts of our Lighthouse to take home. Activities are included as part of the regular admission price to the museum.
It was on August 7, 1789 that Congress approved an Act for the establishment and support of lighthouses, beacons, buoys, and public piers. In 1988 a law was enacted to designate August 7 as National Lighthouse Day so that, on that day, where feasible, lighthouses should be open to the public.
