Maritime Folk Art Workshop Series

The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum is excited to host a series of Maritime Folk Art Workshops throughout the fall, winter and spring. Learn traditional art forms from a handful of remaining, practicing Folklife Artists who will pass down their knowledge and skills in fishnet  making, palm frond weaving, traditional dancing and foods, quilting and more. Together with the artists, participants will help keep these art forms alive, vibrant and valued. Schedules and sign-up information are available below.

Winter 2017 Schedule

It's All Greek!
Dance, Food & Language
Learn traditional Greek dancing and how to cook Old World Greek dishes that are still a part of a healthy Mediterranean diet. Add to that an introduction to Greek language for a complete cultural experience!

Cuban Foodways

Sample the flavor of Cuba with Marisella Veiga, traditional Cuban cook, who will share her knowledge and love of traditional Cuban cooking. With each class, you'll be able to add to your list of favorite dishes to make and eat!

Over six Saturdays this fall you'll discover the delicate art and technical skills of Menorcan fishnet making from Mike Usina, Master Folk Artist. 
Palm Frond Weaving
December 3 and December 10
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Pam Solano, who has perfected the art of palm frond weaving, will teach the basics of this traditional folk art popular in Florida.
